In order to accommodate our growing market of smartphone customers, Blackberry Enterprise Services has been incorporated into Smartphone Services. Telecommunications will offer subscribers the ability to sync their Groupwise calendars, contacts and email via a secure and encrypted connection for a small monthly fee. Starting in August the UCF Telecommunications department will begin supporting the iPhone in addition to BlackBerry devices. With Apple’s 3.0 software upgrade now available, the iPhone will be able to take full advantage of the functionality of the UCF Smartphone services. Users will be able to create appointments, send invitations, and add contacts to their address book wirelessly all without having to install any additional software.

BlackBerry Enterprise Server Changes

3:17 PM Apr 10, 2009

by Computer Services & Telecommunications

The University BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) which provides device email, calendar, and address book synchronization to our customer's GroupWise accounts will be undergoing a performance related upgrade. These changes are part of a strategic initiative by Computer Services & Telecommunications (CS&T) to improve the quality of services as well as support future upgrades. The result should be a substantial improvement in updates from GroupWise to the BlackBerry devices.

Beginning April 9th, 2009, the BES support team will begin to move customers to the new updated server. One or two GroupWise Post Office servers will be moved every two business days until the upgrade is complete. You will be given a one day notice before your account will be upgraded as well as a one hour reminder before we begin. When the upgrade is complete, a special message will be sent directly to your device informing you when the upgrade is complete.

You are not required to take any action for the upgrade to occur. Although we do not anticipate any issues, you are encouraged to contact the service desk at (407) 823 - 5117 if you experience problems during this upgrade process. Your feedback is crucial to ensuring we continually improve the reliability and quality of the service we provide. The schedule of moves is located here.

by Information Technologies & Resources

Computer Services & Telecommunications (CS&T) is expanding the university’s voice mail system to accommodate campus growth. As part of this upgrade, we must migrate some users to new hardware.

On Sunday April 5, 2009, your voice-mail will be switched from the current system to the new system. This change will be transparent to you or any caller leaving you a voice-mail message. However, any voice-mail messages that were received prior to Sunday April 5 will not be migrated over. If you have saved voice-mail messages or you have messages you have not listened to as of Sunday April 5, you will need to dial 4-1111 on your phone to retrieve these messages. Messages received prior to April 5 will be available until Saturday May 9, 2009. After that date, they will be deleted.

Please also note effective April 5, 2009 voice mail messages will be retained for 180 days, after which they will be deleted. If you have any questions, please contact the CS&T Service Desk at 407-823-5117 or servicedesk@mail.ucf.edu.
